Prerequisites

  • A Bachelor´s degree comprising at least 60 credits, including 15 credits thesis, in Caring Science/Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Medical Science, Public Health

Summary in English

After completing the course, the student shall be able to:

  • describe and explain various dementia diseases, dementia investigation, diagnosis and treatment
  • problematize and reflect on the significance of symptoms and signs of dementia in terms of human physical, mental and social situations
  • problematize and reflect on how the diagnosis process of dementia affects human psychological and social situations
  • critically reflect on pharmacological treatment and caring interventions for behavioural and mental symptoms in dementia
  • identify and discuss the need for different caring interventions for people with dementia and critically reflect on the nurse’s responsibility in such work
  • identify and discuss the need for different caring interventions in relation to guidelines for the care of persons with dementia.
