Learning Outcomes

The overall aim of the course is that the student develops knowledge of the Swedish language. After completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • understand, report and discuss different types of texts in simple Swedish and identify and reflect upon grammatical structures.
  • communicate in different situations, take stands and discuss a situation or a phenomenon in simple Swedish.
  • understand and relate to another person’s opinions and express his or her own, orally and in writing in a simple and easily comprehensive way.
  • read a simple text on his or her own, understand and report on its main contents.
  • apply basic grammatical knowledge orally and in writing.
  • given some instruction, improve the grammar in a text produced either by him- or herself or another student.

Course Content

The course consists of different types of texts written in simple Swedish. The students also read individually a fiction book in simple Swedish and account for the contents. Swedish grammar is highlighted and practised continously and the course deepens the students‘ knowledge of vocabulary, morphology and sentence structure. The texts written by the students are examined and corrected together. Different types of texts are studied and produced, spoken as well as written ones. The students discuss and report on their opinions orally and in writing. The pronunciation is practiced continuously.

Assessment

Assessment is based on active participation in seminars, assignments and oral presentations throughout the course as well as a final written assignment.

Forms of Study

Instruction will be conducted mainly in Swedish in forms of lectures, seminars and exercises.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

  • Beginner Studies in Swedish for International Students II, 7,5 credits

Other Information

The course is for Erasmus students.

For web-based course the student must have the means to communicate with sound and image through a computer or the equivalent.
