Learning Outcomes

The overall aim of the course is that the student develops knowledge and skills to communicate in simple, predictable and spontaneous everyday situations. After completion of the course the student should be able to

  • identify and classify words within the main Swedish vocabulary
  • apply basic knowledge of grammar both orally and in writing
  • understand simple texts
  • use and understand the principles of Swedish pronunciation
  • express his/her thoughts and impressions in a simple way in a communicative comprehensible way
  • apply simple communicative strategies in order to bridge communication difficulties

Course Content

The course deals with the basic structures of the Swedish language and and is communicative oriented with some basic linguistic concepts. Texts, which are read during the course, illustrate grammar patterns and at the same time serve to widen the student´s Swedish vocabulary. Through a variety of perceptual, productive exercises and interactive classrooms activities the student continuously practices grammar as well as his or her communicative skills. The student works in groups and individually and is given opportunities to present his/her impressions and experiences in his/her own words in Swedish. Traditions celebrated in Sweden, current for the season, will be given attention and the student will compare them with his or her own traditions by describing them in a simple Swedish.

Assessment

Assessment is based on active participation in classes, assignments throughout the course as well as a final written and oral exam.

Forms of Study

Instruction will be conducted in Swedish and English, alternatively in the form of lectures, seminars and exercises.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

  • Beginner Studies in Swedish for International Students I, 7,5 credits

Other Information

The course is for Erasmus students.

For web-based course the student must have the means to communicate with sound and image through a computer or the equivalent.
