Learning Outcomes

The overall goal of the course is that the student will demonstrate a deepened knowledge of a midwife‘s field of work and area of responsibility from an organisational perspective, and will problematise the field of work and the area of responsibility in the organisation .

After completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a deepened knowledge of theories and strategies which are described in literature as the basis for the organisation of mother and child health care
  • Reflect on principles which are described in literature as the basis for an efficient health care organisation
  • Demonstrate a deepened understanding of teamwork, efficient communication and good working relations within and between different disciplines in an organisation
  • Define and problematise “task shifting“ with the intention of using resources more efficiently in relation to a midwife‘s field of work and area of responsibility
  • Describe and problematise communication between management, employees, tutors, teachers and students.

Course Content

The student will study the role of midwife in the mother and child health care organisation from a sustainability perspective, nationally and internationally. Furthermore, the student will study the structure and function of the organisation, the importance of leadership for teamwork, and the importance of communication for the health of women and children within and between different professions and levels in the organisation of mother and child health care.

Assessment

Written assignments and seminars are examination criteria of the course.

Forms of Study

Individual work, lectures and compulsory seminars are the forms of study.

Grades

The Swedish grades A–F.

  • A Bachelors degree comprising at least 180 credits, with a major in Caring Science/Nursing
