Summary in English

The overall goal is for students to develop a basic understanding of the primary and secondary school, the emergence and position in society from an educational policy, educational philosophy and curriculum theory. Another goal is for students to develop an understanding of teacher education emergence in a social context. Furthermore, students should develop an understanding of the meaning and value of a scientific approach in the teaching profession and the basic ability to consider the civic mission of educational reform from different perspectives.

After completing the course, students should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of current political governance and organization of today‘s education system, with particular emphasis on secondary school and upper secondary school
  • reflect on the policy documents to educational policy, curriculum theory and educational philosophical concepts
  • conduct a survey of schools and the teaching profession as a problem area, and reflect on scientific aspects of this
  • demonstrate knowledge of their teacher education as a political construction
  • compare the Swedish school‘s civic mission with some other countries‘ corresponding assignment
  • demonstrate the ability to take a scientific approach towards the teaching profession
  • demonstrate the ability to use aesthetic expression
  • demonstrate an ability to manage digital tools related to his or her studies
  • demonstrate proficiency in academic writing
  • demonstrate the ability to interact with fellow students
  • demonstrate the ability to communicate in Swedish in speech and writing
