Prerequisites

  • Professional nurse registrated by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, and professional activities as a registered nurse at least 12 months full-time service within Somatic Health-Care

Summary in English

After completing the course, the student shall be able to:

  • describe pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and identify the key concepts in the field of pharmacology
  • identify, assess and communicate information about drug interactions, side effects and other risks associated with drug use
  • describe and evaluate individual variation in response to drugs
  • apply the laws and regulations governing the prescription of drugs and free supplies
  • apply methods of drug calculations
  • identify and discuss environmental and sustainability aspects of the prescription of drugs, such as the effects of pharmaceuticals in the environment and the advantages and disadvantages of pharmacological versus non-pharmacological treatment
  • investigate, diagnose, prescribe and advise on non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment for patients with different diseases related to the nurse`s prescription
  • search for information, communicate knowledge and discuss vaccinations with patients and colleagues
  • identify, analyze and evaluate the need for advice to different groups of patients, as well as find and evaluate information on drug prescriptions and other complex pharmacological context.
