Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- read and understand simple sentences in Chinese
- read about 300 ideographs, han-zi, used in modern Chinese, and write a number of these
- analyze the structure of the han-zi
- find unknown han-zi in dictionaries
- give an outline of the history of the han-zi and of their development.
Course Content
The lessons consist mainly of different exercises working with the characters. Students write the characters by hand and on the computer and practice reading simple texts which are written entirely in han-zi. In addition, they practice using character dictionaries.
Assessment
Assessment is based on oral and written exams.
Forms of Study
Chinese is used as the language of tuition, with English or Swedish as a support language. Teaching is done in the form of class and group activities.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
Prerequisites
- General entrance requirements and English B at Swedish upper secondary school, or equivalent knowledge. No knowledge of Swedish is required.
