Learning Outcomes

After completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • critically evaluate developmental as well managerial options, in terms of the destination sustainability
  • analyse and evaluate the conditions for sustainable tourism planning in specific geographical contexts
  • independently identify and discuss a research problem within the field of sustainable destination development based on recent research


Course Content

The course deals with central concepts and current debates within research in the field of sustainable tourism and sustainable tourism planning with focus on destination development. The theoretical concepts are discussed through the use of practical examples. The students are working with literature seminars, group work where they report both in oral and written form as well as writing papers.

Assessment

The assessment of the course consists of:
Group paper and seminar: 2 credits
Individual paper and seminar : 3.5 credits
Group assignment and seminar: 2 credits

Forms of Study

Forms of study consist of lectures and seminars, group work and presentation of papers.

Grades

The Swedish grades A–F.

The final grade of the course is decided by the result of the individual paper.

Prerequisites

  • A Bachelors degree in either Human Geography, Business Administration, Tourism Studies and English 6

Other Information

The number of examinations is limited to five.

Work that is submitted late can not achieve higher than a passing grade (c).
