Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will, in modern Japanese, be able to:

  • read and understand authentic texts about Japanese society, culture and history
  • give an account of and discuss different themes within these subject areas and use adequate vocabulary
  • make a detailed argument, in speech and writing, supporting their opinions
  • follow a conversation in which fairly specialized vocabulary is used and which is carried out at normal speed
  • explain different nuances in the language.

Course Content

In this course the students further develop their ability to express themselves in modern Japanese. They work with both the written and the oral parts of the language and by using material from different subject areas, they broaden their competence in using a specialized vocabulary. Special focus is put on training the ability to defend or challenge different standpoints.

Assessment

This course is examined by continuous assessment, by active participation at seminars, presentations, listening tasks, written tasks and short essays.

Forms of Study

Japanese is used as the language of tuition. Teaching is done in the form of class and group activities as well as online activities.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

Prerequisites

  • A minimum of 90 credits in Japanese at undergraduate level
