Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to, in Japanese:
- discuss the contents of literary texts
- read prepared literary texts relatively fluently
- write a simple analysis of literary texts.
Course Content
In the course, a number of short stories in modern Japanese are read. The student’s ability to read swiftly is trained and they increase their knowledge of kanji by reading the characters in their linguistic context. By means of summaries and commentaries, the students develop their ability to express themselves orally and in writing.
Assessment
Continuous assessment will be used during the course. Grades will be based on written assignments, active performance in class and on a written review of one of the short stories.
Forms of Study
Japanese is used as the language of tuition, with English exeptionally used as support language. Teaching takes the form of seminars and self-study activities.

The Swedish grades U–VG.
Prerequisites
- A minimum of 60 credits in Japanese at undergraduate level
