Learning Outcomes
To pass this course the student will have to be able to:
· demonstrate a basic awareness of the complexity of culture as the outcome of internal dynamics and external pressure
· explain and produce elementary analyses of the construction of identities
· develop an elementary theoretical and methodological awareness to analyze the intercultural and multicultural trends within Swedish society.

Course Content
The main emphasis is on the formative principles of Swedish culture and society during the last one hundred years. Key concepts such as culture and society are explained in relation to their internal dynamics and external pressure. The construction of identities is an important aspect of this course as well as the discourse and praxis of inter- and multiculturalism exemplified by immigration policies.
Assessment
The course will be assessed through compulsory attendance to seminars as well as through a term paper.
Forms of Study
The form of study includes compulsory attendance at lectures and seminars. All teaching is given in English.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
