Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify all stages of the nursing process
- Describe how evidence-based measurement instruments are used to systematically assess the need for nursing care
- Describe the national values for elderly care and how it can contribute to person-centred care
- Understand the importance of communicating and responding to care recipients with a person-centred approach in daily nursing care and at the end of life
- Explain infection control and the spread of infection in different environments as well as measures to prevent infection according to applicable laws, statutes, ordinances and guidelines
- Explain and apply practical skills training with regard to person, situation and ergonomic principles
- Perform basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation based on current guidelines
Course Content
The course introduces the nursing process, the national values and a person-centred approach in daily nursing work and at the end of life. The course also includes practical skills training.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.
Grades are reported as follows:
- The nursing process - 3.0 Credits | U–G
- Skills Training - 3 Credits | U–G
Prerequisites
- General entry requirements and Mathematics 2a or 2b or 2c, Natural Sciences 2, Social Sciences 1b or 1a1 + 1a2
Other Information
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
