Learning Outcomes
The objective is that students will be able to assess and evaluate health conditions as the basis for the nurse‘s treatment of the patient from both a nursing and medical perspective. The student should also be able to master various technical and communication skills and basic pharmaceutical calculations in a simulated environment.
After completing the course students should be able to:
• describe the development and occurrence of symptoms and signs of illness for common illhealth states, describe diagnosis and treatment in both nursing and medicine in relation to nurse‘s responsibility, •reflect on how health and diseases are related to people‘s living conditions and habits,
• describe common classes of pharmaceuticals for various health conditions on use and adverse effects,
• describe and discuss nursing methods in the nurse‘s responsibilities related to the theoretical knowledge base,
• describe theories of pedagogy, didactics and communication with relevance for nursing and the nurse‘s education and supervising function,
• describe and reflect on the requirements and conditions for eHealth in support of healthcare systematically assess, prioritize and critically evaluate the health status of patients based on symptoms, signs and disease progression in relation to the nurse‘s responsibility;
• systematic use of the nursing process by assessing and valuing health status, and formulate the expected outcomes and the independent and dependent care measures in a nursing care plan,
• communicate with patients in a simulated health situation in a respectful, sensitive and empathic manner,
• reflect on patient integrity, power and participation in the assessment and treatment in health care;
• inform and teach patient care in a simulated situation with regard to the specific context ,
• prepare and implement nursing and medical measures in a simulated environment based on a person-centered and ethical perspective in accordance with technical and health regulations as well as administrative provisions to ensure patient safety,
• reflect on how norms, values, gender, ethnicity , socioeconomic status and age affect communication, care relationship and interpretation of symptoms and signs,
• reflect on the nurse‘s role and responsibilities in relation to environmental work for a sustainable society.

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.
Grades are reported in eight parts.Grades are reported as follows:

- Motility, Skin and Integument - 4 Credits | U–G
- Psychatric Health/Ill health - 4 Credits | U–G
- Comunication and Learning - 4 Credits | U–G
- Neurology and Pain - 4 Credits | U–G
- Clinical Training - 3 Credits | U–G
- Sensory Functions and Sexuality - 3 Credits | U–G
Entry Requirements
- The Nursing Profession and the Professional Responsibility of Registered Nurses 10,5 credits, The Nursing Process and Clinical Skills 6 credits, Methods for Evidence-Based Nursing I 7,5 credits, 3 credits from Pharmacology, Microbiology and Immunology 7,5 credits and a total of 9,5 credits from Anatomy and Physiology for Registered Nurses I 6 credits and Anatomy and Physiology for Registered Nurses II 7,5 credits
Other Information
Kursen genomförs i hög grad nätbaserat, vilket förutsätter tillgång till dator med internetuppkoppling samt headset och webbkamera.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
