German I: Writing and AI

After completing the course, students will be able to:

• produce coherent, correct, and stylistically appropriate texts in German and adapt them to different text types and communicative contexts
• use writing as a process through planning, drafting, revising, and editing
• critically review their own and others’ texts and identify and correct grammatical and idiomatic errors
• use digital and Gen-AI-based tools as support in the writing process in a reflective and responsible manner
• analyse and compare their own and AI-generated texts with regard to quality, style, correctness, and communicative function

The course focuses on written production in German. Focus is on developing the ability to plan, formulate, revise, and edit texts with regard to grammatical accuracy, idiomatic language use, and adaptation to different text types and communicative contexts. As part of this work, digital and AI-based tools are introduced as support in the writing process. Students are given the opportunity to explore and analyse how such tools affects text production, linguistic variation, and style. Particular emphasis is placed on the reflective and critical use of AI, including discussions of its possibilities, limitations, and risks. The course also includes reflective components aimed at developing awareness of the writing process.
