Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • explain various scientific traditions and concepts relating to quantitative research methods
  • describe the steps of the research process in quantitative studies
  • plan the implementation of a small-scale quantitative study
  • conduct statistical analyses concerning description and relationships
  • report and present the results of statistical analyses
  • explain ethical aspects relating to quantitative studies

 

Course Content

The course aims to introduce quantitative research methods. It has three modules. In the first module, various scientific traditions and concepts are addressed along with the steps in the research process with focus on methods for design, data collection, and analysis in quantitative studies. In the second module, focus shifts to the planning of a small-scale quantitative study. The third module introduces statistical methods with a focus on descriptive and correlational analysis.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is A–F.

To achieve a grade higher than C, students must achieve the grade of C and higher in all the evaluated modules.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Quantitative methods - 2.5 Credits | A–F
  • Planning of quantitative study - 2.5 Credits | A–F
  • Statistical analysis - 2.5 Credits | A–F

Entry Requirements

  • 60 credits in the field of Social Sciences

Other Information

Course replaces TR2004.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
