Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- describe different methods of investigations and the investigation process involving adult persons in social work
- describe and investigate the child´s social situation and special needs from a development theoretical perspective
- demonstrate knowledge of different strategies to conduct conversations and communication with adults, children and families and exemplify communication aids.
Skills and abilities
After completing the course, students shall be able to:
- from a user perspective carry out various types of investigations in social work concerning children, families, persons with addiction or addiction problems, people with disabilities and with the need for special support and elderly with special needs
- handle cases from application/notification to decisions and interventions
- apply relevant laws and to be able to express in a simple, legal and concrete manner in writing.
Values and attitudes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- show insight into what different aspects of intersectionality such as gender, class, ethnicity and disability mean for assessment of interventions
- show insights into people’s different needs, level of development in a life-course perspective
- reflect on the importance of the interpersonal meeting and professional response for the investigation process.

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

- Seminars, written assignments, group work, campus examination - 7.5 Credits | U–VG
Entry Requirements
- Organisational Sociology 15 credits, Social Law Part II 7.5 Credits, Substance Abuse and Dependence 7.5 credits and Family Perspective on Social Work 7.5 credits
Other Information
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
