Knowledge and Understanding
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain central concepts, principles, components, and methods within operating systems.
- Describe the different modules in an operating system.
- Provide examples and explain how the kernel of an operating system is designed and how it functions.
- Explain how concurrent code is handled in an operating system.
- Explain how memory is managed in an operating system.
Skills and Abilities
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Install, configure, and administer various operating systems intended for client environments.
- Manage and administrate different operating systems‘ file systems, users, and permissions.

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Oral examination - 3.5 Credits | U–G
- Assignments - 3.0 Credits | U–G
- Exam - 1.0 Credit | U–G

Other Information
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
