Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • apply Chinese language skills in basic commercial activities
  • use appropriate expressions on social occasions, as reception, greeting, introduction, apology and congratulations
  • use appropriate expressions for shopping, traveling, using public transportation, telephoning and making appointments
  • use appropriate expressions when asking or giving a quotation and when making simple presentations about a company or a product
  • give a general account of the essentials of Chinese business rules and activities including trade, investment, cooperation and management of enterprises.

Course Content

This is a language course with the emphasis on the basic business communication skills. In this course students train to communicate with Chinese business contacts. The students study basic commercial vocabularies and expressions (both Pinyin and characters), practice presentations, participate in group activities, and discuss the relevant culture and customs to gain background knowledge about Chinese business life. Multi-media materials will also be used in this course including audio and video files of the textbook, and short movie clips. Students are required to complete weekly assignments, training reading comprehension, the writing of short essays, listening comprehension and oral proficiency.

Forms of Study

Seminars and group activities. Chinese is used as the language of tuition, with English or Swedish as a support language.

The Swedish grades U–VG.
