Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • describe and analyse Italian literature from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries as well as its most important authors and literary movements
  • analyse, present and discuss, in spoken Italian, the contents of a selection of representative literary works, and identify their typical time features
  • reflect upon the chosen literary works and place them both in a literary and cultural context, as well as in a broader comparative European perspective

Course Content

The course contains an orientation in the Italian literary history of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries through the study of the most central works, authors and literary movements of these periods. In the course, students practise understanding and analysing, orally and in writing, Italian literary works.

Assessment

  • Continuous examination in seminars
  • Written online exam

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve VG in both modules.

Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Active participation in seminars - 3.5 cr | U–VG
Module 2: Final written exam - 4 cr | U–VG

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Active participation in seminars - 3.5 Credits | U–VG
  • Final written exam - 4 Credits | U–VG

Entry Requirements

  • Italian A: Phonetics and Oral Proficiency, 7.5 credits, Italian A: Grammar and Written Proficiency, 7.5 credits and one of the Italian A: Text Analysis courses, 7.5 credits

Other Information

Teaching is web-based using learning platformsand digital tools. Students require access to a computer with a sound card andinternet connection, a headset with microphone and headphones, as well as anexternal web-cam.

Replaces GIT26W.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
