Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • use the most common phonetic terms to describe and analyse Italian pronunciation
  • explain and reflect upon the main features of Italian pronunciation from a contrastive perspective
  • understand standard spoken Italian in authentic situations
  • discuss and express opinions about different subjects from an intercultural perspective by using everyday Italian and demonstrating adequate pronunciation
  • plan and give a brief oral presentation in Italian

Course Content

The course contains a review of Italian pronunciation and main phonetical features with application in practical pronunciation exercises. The course enables students to gain a basic knowledge so that they can develop their communicative skills in standard spoken Italian. Current topics in Italian culture, debate and everyday life are discussed from an intercultural perspective. Students are taught to plan and conduct oral presentations.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG. To achieve the grade VG for the entire course , students must achieve VG in all modules.

Grades are reported as follows:
• Phonetics - 1.5 Credits | U–VG
• Pronunciation - 2.5 Credits | U–VG
 • Oral communication - 3.5 Credits | U–VG

Entry Requirements

  • General entry requirements (with the exemption of the requirement in Swedish for those with foreign grades) and Italian 3 or Italian: Beginners Course II, 15 credits. Or: Italian Further level 1
