Learning Outcomes

The overall objective of the course is for students to acquire knowledge of the portrayal of children and adolescents in Italian fiction.
On completion of the course, students will, in Italian, be able to:

  • discuss and compare, orally and in writing, a selection of fictional texts
  • explain words and expressions from a selection of fictional texts
  • conduct simple analyses of fictional texts while applying basic literary concepts
  • explain the social, historical, geographical and cultural circumstances described in a selection of fictional texts.

Course Content

The course comprises the study and analysis of selected fictional works that depict life and social conditions for children and adolescents in Italy. The course introduces basic literary concepts and how they can be applied to fictional texts.

  • Continous examination  in seminars
  • Written assignments
  • Oral assignments

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve VG in both modules.

 Grades are reported as follows:
• Continuous examination in seminars - 3 Credits | U–VG
• Written and oral assignments - 4.5 Credits | U–VG 

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Active Participation in Seminars - 3 Credits | U–VG
  • Oral and Written Assignments - 4.5 Credits | U–VG

Entry Requirements

  • General entry requirements (with the exemption of the requirement in Swedish for those with foreign grades) and Italian 3 or Italian: Beginners Course II, 15 credits. Or: Italian Further level 1
