Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • describe the prevention and initial care of potential sports-related injuries,
  • perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
  • from a sports medicine perspective, differentiate and discuss the coach’s role in preventative strategies and the care of various sports injuries, in relation to other professions,
  • discuss the structure of sports medicine rehabilitation systems based on scientific recommendations.

Course Content

This course provides a foundation in concepts relating to sports medicine, equipping future coaches with skills and knowledge to prevent, respond to and promote effective rehabilitation for a selection of common sport-related injuries. Students will learn about methods of how to assess and deliver basic first aid for acute injuries, including CPR (HLR). Students will develop an understanding of the specific needs and progress of an athlete’s recovery to effectively integrate prehabilitation and rehabilitation processes into training programmes, ensuring a balance between promoting healing, minimizing re-injury risk and maintaining athletic performance.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Injury Management and CPR - 3.5 Credits | U–G
  • Project work for sports medicine - 4 Credits | U–VG

Other Information

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement.
