Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- explain fundamental methodological approaches in research,
- describe and apply basic principles of research ethics,
- use database searches to find relevant scientific literature,
- interpret and review scientific articles,
- describe, document, and discuss scientific processes in accordance with academic standards.
Course Content
The course covers scientific writing, research methodology, research processes, and what it means to adopt a critical approach. It introduces methods for searching for scientific information, analysing and summarising research, as well as the application of research processes in various contexts.
Assessment
- Oral examination in groups
- Individual written assignments
Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Methodological approaches and research ethics - 2.5 Credits | U–G
- Research processes - 5 Credits | U–G

Other Information
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement.
