Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • reflect on and discuss various aspects of sports leadership in relation to ecological, social, and economic sustainability, as well as the governing documents of sports,
  • identify and discuss the importance of a sustainable approach to sports leadership for both the coach and the athlete,
  • describe and discuss sustainable sports leadership and ethical aspects related to the concepts of inclusion and safe sports, supported by various theories and models in the field.

Course Content

The course includes discussions on various aspects of sports leadership in relation to ecological, social, and economic sustainability, as well as the governing documents of sports. Furthermore, the conditions for sustainable sports leadership are studied, with particular consideration given to inclusion and safe sports, as well as the long-term health and well-being of both coaches and athletes. A central part of the course involves students being able to identify, formulate and discuss their leadership philosophy, supported by theories and models in the field. Students are also introduced to the concept of reflection and the significance that reflection can have for their development as sports leaders.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Sports coaching and sustainable development - 2.5 Credits | U–G
  • Sustainable coaching - 5 Credits | U–VG

Other Information

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
