Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will, at a basic level, be able to:

  • reflect on and discuss the role of the coach from different scientific perspectives
  • discuss the link between coaching philosophy and coaching practice in climbing.

Course Content

The course will discuss the science and philosophy of coaching and how the role of coach is perceived by different individuals and groups. Emphasis will be on critical reflection and development of students’ own coaching philosophy and their practical applications, with thought given to how these relate to concepts such as leadership, group dynamics, communication, decision-making and moral dilemmas.

Assessment

  • Written assignment.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.

  • Climbing Coach - 2 Credits | U–G

Other Information

The course is offered in collaboration with the Swedish Climbing Federation.

It cannot be included in a Dalarna University degree that includes Coaching Powerlifting or Judo, 2 credits.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
