Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will, in French, be able to:

  • analyse, interpret and discuss a selection of literary works from the French-speaking world
  • discuss and problematise the French-speaking world and various aspects of ”la Francophonie”
  • analyse and problematise historical, cultural, literary and linguistic aspects of these countries/regions
  • apply scholarly literary methods when analysing of literary works that are in French.

Course Content

In the course, a selection of fictional works are discussed in relation to the historical and social development of French-speaking countries. The course includes a study of the French-speaking world from a historical, literary, cultural and linguistic perspective. The course also includes scholarly literary methods.

  • Active participation in seminars
  • Oral presentation
  • Written supervised online exam

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, VG is required in the module Written Presentation.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Written Presentation - 5.5 Credits | U–VG
  • Oral Presentation - 2 Credits | U–VG

Entry Requirements

  • 60 credits in the main field of study French, including 30 credits in French II

This course overlaps previous course codes GFR35F, GFR27D and GFR2KN.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
