Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • communicate comfortably and confidently in different everyday situations
  • express their thoughts on everyday subjects and use some simple specialist terminology relating to different subjects
  • understand fairly complex Chinese sentences and written excerpts
  • write short essays using Chinese characters
  • read and study somewhat simplified authentic texts in Chinese.

Course Content

The course comprises six parts that build on each other. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing are greatly integrated with each other. The course includes speaking and listening exercises that enables students to practise communicating about common situations and discuss well-known topics in Chinese. By reading, analysing, and discussing moderately challenging texts and by also completing short writing assignments, students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Chinese grammar and language structure while expanding their vocabulary.

Forms of Study

Chinese is used as the language of instruction, supported by English or Swedish. Teaching is done in the form of seminars, group work and different individual online activities.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

For a final course grade of VG (Pass with Credit), students must achieve VG for at least 9 credits, including the modules Written examination and Oral examination.

Prerequisites

  • 60 credits in the main field of study Chinese

Other Information

The language of instruction is Chinese, and Swedish or English is used when necessary.
