Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students shall, in French, be able to:
- describe the geography, history and institutions of the most important French-speaking countries (not including France)
- describe and discuss how the French language has spread and developed outside Europe
- place the concept of “la francophonie“ in both a historical and critical perspective
- discuss, orally and in writing, different aspects of the French-speaking world.
Course Content
The course includes a study of the geography, history, culture, institutions and social life of French-speaking countries, not including France. A number of the political and economic aspects of these French-speaking countries are addressed in terms of their relationship with France and Belgium. The term “la francophonie“ is critically analysed and discussed.
Assessment
Continuous assessment of active participation in seminars, shorter written assignments and an oral presentation.
Forms of Study
Obligatory seminars. The language of instruction is French.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
Prerequisites
- General entrance requirements and French B/French 3 at Swedish upper secondary school, or equivalent knowledge. French 3 can be replaced by French: Basic course II 15 credits at Högskolan Dalarna
