Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course the student shall be able to:

  • describe the basic concepts and models in financial accounting including valuation principles and result measures

Skills and abilities
After completing the course the student shall be able to:

  • use accounting software and manage practical bookkeeping
  • make a financial report containing the income statement and balance sheet where the external accounting conventions and valuation rules are taken into account

Values and attitudes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:

  • critically discuss and reflect on the roles of financial accounting in society and their ethical aspects

Course Content

The course covers basic concepts in financial accounting. Financial accounting includes bookkeeping and annual accounts and the use of accounting software are discussed. Furthermore, treatment allocation, valuation of assets, and liabilities and appropriations are also covered.

Assessment

Written examination, 4 credits
Written group assignment, 3.5 credits

Forms of Study

Lectures, seminars, exercises and written assignments.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

The course applies the grades Fail (U), Pass (G), Pass with Distinction (VG).
The following grades can be obtained:

Written examination U, G, VG
Assignment : U, G

To pass the course, students must obtain the grade G on the assignment. To pass the course with distinction (VG), VG is in addition required in the written examination.

Assessments of each task are only made during the period shown in the study guide.

Students must be able to account for their actions in group assignments.

Cannot be credited together with any of the following courses: FÖ1004, FÖ1008, FÖ1033, FÖ1043 and/or FÖ1059.
