On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- explain and justify the use of graphic design principles
- apply the basic functions of audiovisual post-processing tools
- apply tools and functions for productions with motion graphics
- apply the basic principles of project planning
- use an efficient workflow to complete the production of an explainer film, taking into account narrative structure and communicative strategies
- apply and discuss didactics and multimodal communication in the production of explainer films
- analyse and critically review both their productions and those of others based on purpose, form, and relevant theory.
Course Content
The course consists of three modules. The first module deals with graphic design principles for the production and post-processing of explainer films, the purpose of which is to explain or inform about phenomena and occurrences. The content of the second module consists of idea processes and project planning that lead to the development of project documents and a pitch presentation. This module also includes scriptwriting and language use in explainer productions. The third module includes applied design exercises as well as production procedures and processes with animation and workflows. Digital animation tools are used in the production of explainer films. In connection with the production of explainer films, students deepen their understanding of communicative strategies and the narrative structures of short films. In addition, the course introduces the application of didactics and multimodal communication in design processes and emphasises the giving and receiving of constructive criticism on explainer productions.
