Learning Outcomes

The course aims to develop students‘ knowledge of modern literature in French.
After completing the course, students shall, in French, be able to:

  • read and interpret a selection of literary texts
  • analyse literary texts in which basic literary concepts are applied
  • discuss, both orally and in writing, the most important writers, genres, movements, trends and tendencies in French literature from the 20th and 21st century
  • demonstrate some independence in their studies and reflect on their own learning.

Course Content

The course includes a study of a selection of literary works from the French-speaking world from the 1900s and the 2000s . The literature is discussed from a literary, linguistic and historical perspective. The course also includes a literary orientation to the era in question.

Assessment

Continuous examination through active participation in seminars, written assignments and oral presentations, as well as through a final written exam.

Forms of Study

Teaching is in the form of web-based seminars in which students are expected to participate actively. Instruction is in French.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

To achieve the grade VG for the whole course, VG is required for at least 5 cr.

Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Oral presentation - 2.5 cr
Module 2. Written presentation - 5 cr

Prerequisites

  • General entrance requirements and French step 3 at Swedish upper secondary school, or equivalent knowledge. No knowledge of Swedish is required. No knowledge of English is required.
