Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, students should be able to:
- interact verbally and in writing in French in familiar situations
- read and demonstrate an understanding of short texts in French on familiar topics
- write their own texts in French on familiar topics
- translate simple sentences to and from French
- discuss the fundamental similarities and differences between the Swedish and the French language regarding pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary
- apply basic grammatical concepts in analyses.
Course Content
The course covers simple text reading, work on pronunciation and vocabulary, listening comprehension, and varied written and oral exercises. Grammar studies are included to develop the ability to master the language form and to perform basic contrastive analysis. Students are also introduced to various learning theories, which promotes a reflection on the learning process. To summarize their language development so far, students formulate the problems they encountered and how they solved them.
Assessment
The course is assessed continuously through the oral performance in seminars, written assignments, recording data, and a final exam.
Forms of Study
The seminars are central to the course and students are expected to participate actively. Instruction is in French and Swedish.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To get the grade of VG on the whole course, VG is required on modules 1, 3 and 4.
Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Written proficiency part 1 - 4 cr
Module 2: Oral proficiency part 1 - 3.5 cr
Module 3: Written proficiency part 2 - 4 cr
Module 4: Oral proficiency part 2 - 3.5 cr

- General entrance requirements.
Other Information
This course is intended for students who have no previous knowledge of French.
To assimilate the course requires knowledge of Swedish.
