Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course the student should be able to:
- use writing tools för strucuring the story in a film script
- use the basic features in the script program Movie Magic Screenwriter
- develop a script through a step-by-step writing process
- independently devolop a short film script in Movie Magic Screenwriter
- reflect over their own writing process
- make script analysis from story structure and film historical aspects
- describe different film genres
- describe the development of film genres
- describe the theories of film genres.
After completion of the course the student should also be more competent in:
- reflecting and commenting on own and others works
- both orally and in writing communicate his knowledge in a concise, structured and transparent way
- demonstrate an ability to work with fellow students on various assignments.
Course Content
In the course theories of story structure is looked upon and practised in writing assignments. The steps of the screenwriting process are discussed and practised and the student will independently devolop a short film script. The student examines differences in how design can be formulated into various genres and obtain basic knowledge of film history and genre understanding.
Assessment
Assessment is based on written assignments (5 cr) and oral and written examinations (5 cr + 5 cr).
Forms of Study
Lectures and active participation in practical exercises and seminars. Work in groups and individual tasks are mixed. Seminars, workshops and meetings with the supervisor are obligatory.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Scriptwriting: assignment and reflection - 5 hp
Module 2: Story structure: oral and written examinations - 5 hp
Module 3: Genre: oral and written examinations - 5 hp
Prerequisites
- Scriptwriting for TV and Film 1. Elements of Storytelling. Form and Style in Film, 15 cr First cycle level 1, or equivalent knowledge.
