Learning Outcomes
The overall aim of the course is for the
student to understand the procedures and processes
of uncomplicated pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care. The student shall be able to
conduct examinations and provide treatments related to these processes in simulation-bases training based on research and the midwifery scope of practice.
Upon completion of the course, studenta will be
able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of how psychosocial aspects, attachment and bonding, breastfeeding and lactation may be affected by uncomplicated and complicated processes during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period
- problematize and reflect on the roles and needs of the woman, newborn, relatives and others who are closely involved in terms of lactation and breastfeeding difficulties related to midwifery scope of practice
- perform examinations and treatment in uncomplicated pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period in simulation-based training
- explain and reflect on health concepts regarding uncomplicated pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period including neonatal care
- analyze and reflect on management related to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care within the midwifery scope of practice
- critically reflect on governance, legislation, regulations and ethics in the midwifery profession
- understand and explain how pharmacological treatments and other interventions can influence pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period
- critically reflect on different forms of pain relief treatment in pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
Course Content
The course comprises reflection,
discussion and problematizing of normal processes in handling uncomplicated
pregnancy, delivery and postpartum care. Further studies include diagnosing and
treating breast feeding and breastfeeding complications.
Assessment
Examinations are written home exam, seminars with reports and
clinical simulation based training.
Forms of Study
Individual work, group work, lectures, mandatory seminars and simulation
based training.

The Swedish grades U–G.

Prerequisites
- A Swedish nursing licence, and a completed Bachelor‘s degree in any major in the health sciences and Thesis 15 credits
