Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- demonstrate understanding of the Hegelian dialectical framework (thesis–antithesis–synthesis) and apply it to construct logically organised and balanced spoken arguments in Chinese
- collect, critically evaluate, and compile information from a range of Chinese-language sources to support well-informed discussions
- analyse and articulate well-informed perspectives on key issues in contemporary Chinese society and culture, such as evolving social values and traditions, and the impact of digital technologies.
- engage in academic and profession-related dialogues in Chinese by responding to differing viewpoints using contextually appropriate conversation strategies, and culturally sensitive communication
- communicate complex ideas and arguments in spoken Chinese using a clear structure, correct grammar and appropriate advanced and idiomatic vocabulary.
Course Content
The course integrates advanced practice of language proficiency with theoretical tools for analysing and discussing key social and cultural issues in Chinese. The course introduces the Hegelian dialectical framework for constructing logically organised and balanced spoken arguments. Students work with different Chinese-language sources to collect, critically evaluate, and compile information to support their arguments. Emphasis is on presenting well-informed perspectives on contemporary topics and on using advanced idiomatic and contextually appropriate language in academic settings.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
For a grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve a VG for at least 5 credits, including the module Oral online exam.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Advanced Chinese conversation, part 1 - 2 Credits | U–VG
- Advanced Chinese Conversation, part 2 - 2 Credits | U–VG
- Advanced Chinese conversation, part 3 - 2 Credits | U–VG
- Oral online exam - 1.5 Credits | U–VG
Entry Requirements
- 90 credits in the main field of study Chinese, including Chinese in Speech and Writing IV, 15 credits
Other Information
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
