Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • translate fictional text into English
  • use idiomatic language in the translation
  • explain and justify in detail the strategies used for the translation
  • independently search and compile reference materials necessary for a translation.

Course Content

The course includes a translation of a fictional text that was first written in a language other than English. In consultation with the teacher, students choose a short text that is not available in English. Students translate this text into English and present it in an annotated form that describes the strategies and reference materials that they used.

Assessment

Active participation in supervision and a written assignment.

Forms of Study

Obligatory supervision, individual or in groups. The language of instruction is English.

Grades

The Swedish grades A–F.

  • 60 credits at Second Cycle, with 30 credits in the main field of study Intercultural Literature Studies
