Learning Outcomes

The overall objective with the course is that students develop a deeper knowledge of spoken French, and its variants in terms of pronunciation, syntax and vocabulary. The course also aims for students to develop knowledge of the ability of Swedish students of French to understand spoken French.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • describe and analyse modern spoken French language and its variants
  • analyse and discuss syntax, phonetics and phonology of spoken French
  • analyse various genres of spoken French
  • describe the most common problems that Swedish learners of French have in the perception of spoken French and to describe and explain why these problems occur.

Course Content

The course includes advanced studies in spoken French. In the course modern spoken French is looked at and analysed from a syntactic, phonetic and sociolinguistic perspective. The course also includes varied exercises in understanding spoken French as well as a review of common problems of Swedish students of French when it comes to percieving amd understanding spoken French.

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Spoken French; syntax, phonetics and perception - 7.5 Credits | U–VG

Prerequisites

  • 90 credits in the main field of study of French including 30 credits in French III

Other Information

The language of tuition is French.

This course overlaps previous course codes FR3014 and FR3006.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement.
