Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- critically comment in French on literary works from different periods and on different interpretations of those texts
- describe the dominant tendencies of literary theory from the 1900s, and use the theoretical concepts in the analysis of literary texts
- apply literary methodology in an independent way in a written literary analysis of a literary work in French
- argue orally and convincingly in academic French for their piece of independent work .
Course Content
The course includes advanced studies in literary theory and method as based on French literature. In the course, French literary texts are critically analysed, and the course allows for a deeper understanding of literary theories. Literary theories and methods will be applied in the writing of a piece of literary analysis. Students select, in consultation with the teacher, a subject to specialise in.
Assessment
The course is examined through written assignments, active participation in seminars and a longer piece of written work, which students defend a seminar.
Forms of Study
Lectures and obligatory seminars. The language of instruction is French.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, VG is required in at least 8 credits.
Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Seminars - 3 cr
Module 2: Written Assignments - 4 cr
Module 3: Longer Piece of Written Work - 8 cr

- 90 credits in French including 30 credits in French III
