Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- apply models and processes in strategic management to conduct strategic analyses of organisations
- critically discuss sustainability from economic, social and environmental perspectives in an organisational context
- critically discuss how organisations can create value in a responsible and sustainable manner
- critically discuss trade-offs, conflicts and ethical dilemmas that may arise in organisational activities between different stakeholders
- analyse and assess the sustainability strategies of organisations in relation to organisational and institutional conditions.
Course Content
The first module, Strategic Perspectives and Sustainability, addresses central perspectives on strategic management and sustainability in organisations. The focus is on strategic models, processes and perspectives for strategic analysis, sustainability and responsible value creation from economic, social and environmental dimensions. The module also addresses stakeholder relationships, trade-offs, conflicts and ethical dilemmas that may arise in the strategic work of organisations.
The second module, Analysis of Organisational Sustainability Strategies, focuses on applying strategic perspectives and models to analyse and assess the sustainability strategies of organisations. Particular emphasis is placed on how organisational and institutional conditions influence the strategic choices and opportunities of organisations to pursue responsible and sustainable practices.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
To be awarded the grade Pass with Distinction (VG) for the course, students must achieve a Pass with Distinction (VG) in both modules.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Strategic Perspectives and Sustainability - 4.5 Credits | U–VG
- Analysis of Organisational Sustainability Strategies - 3 Credits | U–VG
Entry Requirements
- Degree of Bachelor in a main field of study in the Social Sciences 180 credits, including 22.5 credits in Business Administration, Human Resource Management or Work Science, and 7.5 credits in Social Science Research Methods, as well as English 6/English Level 2
Other Information
The language of instruction is English.
In the case of re-examination, the form of assessment may be changed at the discretion of the examiner.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
