Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • discuss and evaluate terms and concepts used in research on cultural encounters from different perspectives
  • apply relevant theories in the field of intercultural studies to the analysis and interpretation of literary texts
  • explain and discuss the academic background and identity of intercultural literature studies in relation to other subject disciplines
  • in writing and speech communicate and argue for their own interpretations
  • discuss other students‘ written work by giving constructive criticism.

Course Content

The course provides a broad overview of the various academic disciplines that define the field of intercultural literature studies. Theories of hermeneutics, gender theory, postcolonialism, translation science and ecocriticism are explored with the aim of contextualising intercultural literature studies and providing different perspectives on the subject‘s academic identity.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is A–F.

The final grade for the course is based on an overall assessment by the examiner.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Written Assignments - 5 Credits | A–F
  • Seminars - 2.5 Credits | A–F

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree of 180 credits in the field of Humanities, Social Sciences or Education and English 6

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
