Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • interpret data related to solar energy,
  • use data structures and handle reading and writing in data files,
  • identify important factors that contribute to measurement data quality,
  • apply data processing, data analysis, and data visualisation using a programming language in a critical and systematic manner,
  • communicate project results based on data related to solar energy both orally and in writing.

Course Content

The course focuses on data processing and the visualisation of solar energy system data such as solar radiation, temperature, flow rate, voltage, and current with the help of a programming language. The measurement data quality is evaluated, and the impact of accuracy and uncertainty on results are discussed. Collected data is processed, analysed, and visualised in a project where the results are communicated written and orally.

Assessment

  • Laboratory work
  • Oral presentation with individual assessment
  • Individual written report

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

To achieve a final grade of VG, students must achieve a VG in both the oral presentation and the written report.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Laboratory work - 3 Credits | U–G
  • Oral presentation - 1 Credit | U–VG
  • Written report - 1 Credit | U–VG

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree with the main field of study in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering or engineering physics and English 6

Other Information

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
