Learning outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- identify and discuss different types of writing in the field of literary studies, such as academic papers, scholarly articles and dissertations
- discuss components of the research process in literary studies, from basic research questions, critical review of previous research, and the choice of method and theory, to text and discourse analysis, and the structure of their own arguments
- apply common rules and conventions for documentation, paraphrase, citation and bibliography, relevant for the field of intercultural literature studies
- carry out an independent short literary research assignment on an intercultural literary theme, which is presented in an argumentative essay
- analyse and discuss the academic writing of others by pointing out strengths as well as weaknesses in the form of a constructive response.
