What counts as prior learning?
Prior learning can be knowledge and skills you have gained through:
- Previous studies (formal or informal)
- Work experience
- Involvement in organisations or associations
- Other relevant activities
To be considered, your experience must always be documented. Examples of supporting documents include transcripts, course syllabi, employment certificates, reference letters, or proof of organizational involvement.
You must also write a personal letter explaining your situation. In this letter, describe which entry requirement(s) you do not meet formally and explain how your background gives you the equivalent knowledge or skills. Be as specific as possible and connect your experience to the requirement.
How to apply
- Apply for your programme(s)/course(s) on universityadmissions.se.
- Complete the form Application for Validation of Prior Learning (pdf) and write a personal letter. In the letter, explain which formal requirement(s) you are missing and how your previous experience gives you equivalent knowledge or skills. Be as specific as possible.
- Upload the completed form, your personal letter, and all supporting documents. Documentation may include transcripts, course descriptions, employment certificates, reference letters, or proof of organisational involvement. Follow these instructions on how to upload documents (universityadmissions.se). Note that an application for validation of prior learning should be submitted before deadline for supporting documents. If submitted later, there is no guarantee that it will be processed.
- E-mail support@du.se to inform us that you have applied for Validation of Prior Learning. Be sure to include your application number.
What happens next?
Your application will be processed by the Admissions Office at Dalarna University. Each application is reviewed individually. You will receive a response in your universityadmissions.se account (My Pages). Please note: all documents must be uploaded to universityadmissions.se. The email to support@du.se is only to notify us that your application is complete.
