Talking Books

Students with reading difficulties can access adapted course literature, for example, studio books, braille material, and e-textbooks. You need to register for an account so that you can download material to your computer, tablet, or mobile.

Talking Books in Legimus

To borrow talking books, you need a user account with MTM (Swedish Agency for Accessible Media). Book a time with the library to set up an account. Your account can then be used to download literature from Legimus to your computer, tablet, or mobile.

Computer Reading Software

To read a talking book on your computer, you need to install a reading program, such as Easy Reader, which is available for both Mac and PC. You can also read talking books directly in your web browser. For this you need to be connected to the Internet and logged in to Legimus.

You can read e-texts using the programs Thorium or Textview, which you download for free in Legimus.

Apps

To use a talking book on your device, you need to download the app Legimus or the app Dolphin EasyReader. The app is available for both iPhone/iPad and Android.

Record Course Literature

We can order compulsory course literature if it is not already available in Legimus. Fill in the form for request course literature for Legimus. Note that it can take about 8-12 weeks to record a new book.

Referencing Talking Books

A talking book is based on a printed original. This means that the content and page numbering usually aligns with the printed book. You can therefore reference a talking book as you would a regular printed book, according to the reference style you are using.

Some reference styles specify that the source should be identified as a talking book. Make sure to check the referencing guide for the style you are using to see what applies. Guides to different reference styles can be found here.

You should also verify that the talking book you are citing is based on the correct edition. In Legimus, you can find the information you need by opening the book’s record and clicking “Visa mer information om boken”.

If the reference needs to include page numbers, these can be found as follows:

  • Legimus web player: The page numbers are displayed in the upper right corner.
  • Legimus app: Scroll to the page you want to cite, tap the three dots in the upper right corner, and then select “Where am I?”.
  • EasyReader: The page number appears in the upper right corner of the reading window. You can also click the three dots in the upper right margin and select “Where am I?” or “Var är jag?”.

AppWriter

With AppWriter, you can listen to e-books and other files such as locked PDF files. The program works on both Mac and PC, and there are voices for several languages. AppWriter is useful if you have reading or writing difficulties or if your first language is not Swedish: anyone, however, may use it. Students and staff may download AppWriter to their computer.
