Bridging The Menopause Gap:
Exploring Experience, Knowledge, Perceptions and Healthcare support
My doctoral research at Dalarna University focuses on menopause and women’s quality of life. Although menopause is a universal biological transition that can affect health, work life, and daily wellbeing for many years, significant knowledge gaps remain in both society and healthcare.
This project aims to:
• Analyze how menopause is represented in official health information and the implications this has for women’s ability to seek and receive care/support.
• Investigate women’s access to the conditions necessary for making informed decisions regarding their health during the menopausal transition.
• Explore healthcare professionals’ perspectives on how menopause care can be structured to ensure greater accessibility and equity.
• Examine how gender norms and heteronormative assumptions shape women’s experiences of menopause.
The goal is to contribute to a more informed and evidence-based approach to menopause, where women’s experiences, needs, and long-term health are given greater emphasis in both practice and policy.
