In December 2023, the university’s vice-chancellor decided that course evaluations will now be automatically sent to students using the university’s current learning platform. This decision is based on a previous decision stating that students should be given the opportunity to provide their feedback on courses anonymously.
As a result of this decision, the university has developed a function for the automatic distribution of course evaluations in Canvas. This function was tested with the summer courses and will be fully implemented in time for the autumn semester of 2025. You can supplement the mandatory questions, which have been decided on by UFN (University Education and Research Board), with your own questions.
How does the automatic distribution work?
- When you order a course room, a course evaluation will automatically be created in the designated course room in Canvas. It will be available to you, the course coordinator, but will not be published
- Three weeks before the end of the course, you will receive an email with information about how to add your own questions to the mandatory ones.
- The course evaluation will be published automatically two weeks before the end of the course. On the day of publication, an automatic announcement will be sent to the course room. Note that the announcement can be edited after publication.
- The evaluation closes two weeks after the course has ended.
- Once the evaluation has closed, you will receive another email with a link to the course evaluation report, which you can then use in the work with the course analysis.
What does the course coordinator need to do?
- Check that the course evaluation has been created and that it is available in the course room in Canvas.
- If you want to, add your own questions no later than two weeks before the end of the course.
- Read the report after the course ends and use it in the course analysis.
In addition to the automatic course evaluation, teachers can choose the most appropriate methods for collecting student feedback.
Results and feedback to students and teachers with access
A student version of the report, without free-text responses, will be published in the course room’s course evaluation menu. For teachers with access rights, reports with and without free-text responses will appear in the same location.
