Course evaluation
At least once per course, students must have the opportunity to submit their opinion about it anonymously (course evaluation). According to current rules, course evaluations are automatically published using a university-wide template that has been approved by UFN. In addition, the course coordinator may, in consultation with the examiner, choose the most appropriate methods for collecting students’ opinions.
Instructions for the course evaluation
The course evaluation can be found in each course room in Canvas. You can add more questions; however, you cannot change, move, or delete the shared questions. The first time you use the new course evaluation tool in Canvas, you need to approve the connection to Sunet Survey.
The course evaluation is created in the following way:
- When a course room is ordered, a course evaluation is automatically created in the intended course room in Canvas. It is available to course coordinators and has not yet been published.
- The course evaluation is published one week before the end of the course and closes two weeks after the end of the course. If you need to change the publication date, you can do so directly in Canvas.
- An e-mail will be sent out to the course coordinator one week before publication with information stating that you, as course coordinator, can add your own questions. For a course analysis to be generated for you as course coordinator, you must not delete or rename the automatic course evaluations.
- When the course evaluation closes, a report is published in the course room for teachers, and one is published for students. The students' report does not contain any free-text answers or comments. The course coordinator will also receive an email about this.
Course analyses
A course analysis is an important resource for course development, as it provides guidance for the next time the course is offered. It is also important to the overall operational and continuous quality work at Dalarna University.
New course analysis process from the spring semester 2026
Dalarna University has introduced a new method of working with the course analysis that will replace manual processing using Word templates and registration forms. The aim is to simplify the process to make it more efficient and reduce administration. This increases accessibility and strengthens compliance with the legal requirement.
Starting with courses in the spring semester of 2026, the course analysis will be carried out using a digital analysis form. This does not apply to course occasions that began in the autumn semester of 2025.
Instructions
Instructions on how to complete the digital analysis form (in Swedish)
The course analysis must address the following:
- What was new compared with the last time the course was offered?
- How well did the course run?
- Summarise the opinions of teachers and students. In particular, comment on how the course's learning activities and examinations led to the achievement of the course's intended learning outcomes, the research connection and the way in which student influence took form.
- Describe the measures proposed to develop the course and suggestions for consequent updates of the course handbook and/or syllabus.
Accessible course analyses
There is a webpage on the staff website for publishing completed course analyses. It includes courses that are managed through the digital process for course evaluations and analyses.
Once a course analysis has been submitted, an analysis report will be automatically published on the log-in protected page Course analysis and within about 30 minutes will be accessible.
When this happens, there will be an announcement in the respective course room in Canvas. This contains a direct link to the course's analysis report, giving students easy access to the results.
The above is designed to simplify the management of course analyses and increase accessibility for both staff and students.
