Parental Pay and Parental Benefit Supplement

Government employees are entitled to several parental benefits. Some of these are financial. The type of benefit you receive depends in part on the year in which your child was born.

Parental Pay (if your child was born on or after January 1, 2017)

Parental pay (föräldralön) is paid to you automatically up until the time your child reaches 36 months of age: you will receive parental pay for a maximum of 360 days. In the case of adoption, the 36-month period is calculated from the day the child came into your care.

The 360-day limit applies even in the case of multiple children: that is to say, if you adopt more than one child at the same time or if you have twins.

If both you and the child's other parent are employed at Dalarna University, you will together receive 360 days of parental pay.

Parental Benefit Supplement (child born prior to 2017)

When you take parental leave corresponding to the level of sickness benefit, you will receive a parental benefit supplement (föräldrapenningtillägg).

To receive this, you must submit the Swedish Social Insurance Office payment notice (Försäkringskassans utbetalningsbesked) to the Office of Human Resources at the University.
