Background

I am an associate professor of political science and the department head representative at Dalarna University. My research encompasses various issues within political science, with particular emphasis on the role of civil society in democracy, political engagement, and interpersonal attitudes.

I earned my PhD from Örebro University in 2014 and have served as a visiting researcher at the Institute for Social Research in Norway and Aarhus University in Denmark.

Collaboration with the broader society is integral to my work, and I actively engage in dialogues and collaborations where academic insights can contribute to positive societal development. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with government inquiries and agencies.

Teaching

Throughout my career, I have taught political science at all academic levels and developed diverse courses, primarily focusing on civil society, political participation, public administration, political culture, and social science methods. I have also supervised numerous talented students at both bachelor's and master's levels, resulting in engaging research essays.

Research

My current research focuses on the political socialization of young people. In a project funded by the Swedish Research Council, I investigate how experiences during adolescence influence political engagement in young adulthood. This research builds upon one of the world's most comprehensive studies on youth socialization to understand the mechanisms promoting political engagement in adulthood.

Furthermore, I lead a research program on civic engagement in Sweden conducted at Marie Cederschiöld University, which plays a pivotal role in Swedish civil society research.

Another ongoing project examines the participation of interest groups in commissions of inquiry in Nordic countries, conducted in collaboration with researchers from Aarhus University, the Institute for Social Research, and the University of Pittsburgh.

Lastly, I explore civil society's contributions to democracy in various projects, including studies on civil society engagement's role in developing young people's social trust and tolerance, as well as responses to violent extremism in local communities.
