If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.

Examples

Terminated placement

If a course includes a placement (VFU), or similar, then the course syllabus must state that the examiner has the right to decide on the premature termination of the placement.

During a work placement course, a student may be failed before completion if they demonstrate such deficiencies in knowledge, skills, or professional conduct that there is a substantial risk of causing physical or psychological harm to another person. In such cases, the student must discontinue the placement and will receive a grade of Fail for the course. The decision to fail a student before completion is made by the examiner in consultation with the relevant supervisor.

Compulsory components as a requirement for participation in other examinations

A student who has not completed a compulsory component should normally still be allowed to participate in other assessed components of a course. If this is not the case, the course syllabus should clearly state that the completion of the compulsory component is an absolute requirement.

Participation in the compulsory component XXX is required for participation in the other assessed course components.

Reassessment/Resit examinations

If alternative assignments are routinely used for reassessment, the course syllabus should state this.

For reassessment, examination may take place in a different format at the discretion of the examiner.

An alternative assignment is used when a student is absent from a compulsory component.

Restriction on the number of examination attempts

Decisions to limit the number of examination opportunities must be made restrictively, and the number of opportunities must be specified in the course syllabus. If a limitation is imposed, students must be given at least five examination opportunities. If a course consists partly or entirely of a VFU (placement) or equivalent, students must be given at least two examination opportunities/placement periods. This limitation must also be stated in the course syllabus.

A student who fails a placement course has the right to retake the course once, but no more than a total of two attempts.

A student who fails the course has the right to retake the course, but no more than a total of five attempts.

Restriction on the right to supervision

Supervision for work on X is provided during the current course and in accordance with the conditions specified in the course handbook.
